Every year, thousands gather to attend some of Santa Fe’s biggest attractions, festivals, and events. These exciting experiences highlight almost everything Santa Fe has to offer, from rodeos to art shows. Check out our ultimate guide to summer events in Santa Fe for the month of June below:

Currents News Media Festival 
The Currents New Media Festival brings together the work of established, unrecognized and emerging new media artists, from New Mexico, the US and the world, for events showcasing interactive and fine art video installations, multimedia performances, single channel video, animation, digital dome programs, experimental documentary, web based/app art forms, architectural mapping, the oculus rift, robotics and 3D printing. This feast for the eyes has entertained art-lovers of all ages, so don’t miss this citywide pageant of cutting-edge curiosities.

InterPlanetary Festival
The The InterPlanetary Festival is an annual event, free and open to the public, that combines an exploration of complexity science and technological innovation with a summer festival full of music, film, art, food, drinks, and more. The InterPlanetary Festival is completely conceived, curated, and executed by the Santa Fe Institute, whose science acts as the fuel and inspiration for the festival’s many facets. Each year, InterPlanetary compiles all manner of scientists, sci-fi authors, business leaders, artists, etc., to create an interesting and engaging lineup of panels, all revolving around the fundamental systems and questions of our existence as a species, both on Earth and beyond. The main stage conversations are punctuated by concerts, and surrounded by art installations, food trucks, drink vendors, film screenings, community lectures and presentations, and the Innovations & Ideas Expo booths. By design, the majority of the festival is completely free to attend, and is a great way to spend a summer weekend absorbing some out-of-this-world content.

Santa Fe Bandstand
Santa Fe Bandstand is a free, outdoor music festival in the historic downtown Plaza and other locations throughout the city. Over 100 Rock, Country, Native American, Jazz, and Mariachi bands play for free throughout the summer. From regional and national touring artists to the best from Santa Fe’s booming local music scene, there something for every musical taste. The 2019 season runs from June 18th through August 10th, Tuesday through Saturday. Kick up your heels with the locals and experience Santa Fe’s music scene firsthand. Be sure and check the schedule for each week as performance days vary.

Rodeo De Santa Fe
Rodeo de Santa Fe is fun for the entire family, including with many events for the little ones. The Mutton Bustin’ and youth racers continue to be a crowd favorite of young and old alike. Not to mention the carnival midway, concessions, vendors and a beer garden. From barrel racing to bareback and bull riding, Rodeo de Santa Fe has it all and has been roping the hearts of cowboys and rodeo fans since 1949. Get ready for the heart-pounding, dirt-slinging, action-packed performances of top PRCA rodeo athletes and top PRCA rodeo entertainment. Big time rodeo, with a small town feeling. In true rodeo fashion, the 70th Rodeo de Santa Fe will kick off with its annual parade in beautiful downtown Santa Fe on June 19th. Be sure to grab the kids and some lawn chairs and join the local community for a fun and exciting morning.

Santa Fe Studio Tour
Local artists, engaged in creating fine art in Santa Fe County, open their studios annually on the last two weekends in June for the Santa Fe Studio Tour. Open to the public, a free event, this is an unique opportunity for the public to see the artists’ latest work and their working environments. Many artists will be demonstrating their techniques and all will have art for sale. Santa Fe Studio Tour officials describe the Tour as a “dynamic yet intimate total immersion in art where visitors can talk with the artists, experience their working environments and purchase art, all while enjoying the landscape of New Mexico, touring from one studio to the next!” The 2019 Santa Fe Studio Tour kicks off a week early with an artists’ reception Friday, June 14th from 5-8 pm at the Santa Fe Woman’s Club. This is an opportunity for the public to view all the artists’ work and map out their studio tour. One piece from each artist will continue to be on display at the Santa Fe Woman’s Club Saturday and Sunday, June 15th and 16th 11am – 4pm.

Gran Fondo New York – Santa Fe
Organizers of the Gran Fondo New York (GFNY) international cycling competition have selected the city of Santa Fe to be the first-ever preliminary GFNY event in the United States and the North American Championship location. Riders from around the globe will head to the turquoise skies of New Mexico for the inaugural GFNY Santa Fe on June 23, 2019. The Santa Fe race is the newest in the 18 event GFNY series, which offers the opportunity to qualify for a front corral start at the 2020 GFNY World Championship. GFNY Santa Fe features an 81-mile Long (Gran Fondo) course with 7,500 feet of climbing, and 55-mile Medium (Medio) course with 3,300 feet of climbing, both starting near downtown Santa Fe before routing participants through the area’s scenic rolling hills, pinion-juniper woodland and the cottonwoods of Tesuque. In addition to the race, the event brings three-days of vendor exhibits, group rides, guest speakers, film showings, rider socials and an award ceremony to Santa Fe. The premier event is expected to bring 1,000 cyclists to Santa Fe, drawing a significant percentage from Latin American countries. Additionally, TOURISM Santa Fe is providing itineraries for participants and their families based on their interests, including the arts, cuisine or cultural activities.

Santa Fe Opera Festival Season
Enjoy stellar performances under a starry Santa Fe sky with beautiful music, compelling drama and stunning sunsets. Since 1957, newcomers and opera lovers alike have enjoyed world-class productions by one of America’s premier summer opera festivals. Santa Fe Opera’s 2019 season offers 36 performances of five different operas: the world premiere of Poul Ruders’ fairytale opera The Thirteenth Child; Leoŝ Janáček’s intense drama Jenůfa; new productions of Mozart’s romantic comedy Così Fan Tutte; Puccini’s beloved classic La Bohème; and the revival of Santa Fe Opera’s popular 2012 production of Bizet’s Les Pêcheurs de Perles (The Pearl Fishers).
